Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival 2022 (July 1 – July 10)

Hello Orienteers and welcome to the Canadian Rockies 2022 Orienteering Festival!

The Foothills Orienteering Club (FWOC) and the Kootenay Orienteering Club (KOC) have teamed up to organize the 2022 Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival, July 1 to July 10, 2022.

We invite you to join us for the 2022 Western Canadian Orienteering Championships and the 2022 Canadian Orienteering Championships on some of the best terrain in Canada with spectacular surroundings. For both championships, there will be three races: sprint, middle and long distances as well as model event. All races will be on new or fully revised high quality maps.  Both championship and  open / recreational classes will be available.  We will also be orienteering for the first time ever in the Crowsnest Pass in SW Alberta. The perfect stop as you make your way from the Westerns to the Sass Peepre Camp and the Canadians.

The Canadian Rockies offer plenty of outdoor recreational activities for everyone … checkout the tourism pages of the cities of Calgary, Banff, Canmore, Blairmore, Cranbrook and Kimberley!

Crowsnest Barebones Orienteering

We are excited to be developing orienteering in this amazing community in the SW corner of Alberta. It’s a beautiful (approx 2 hr) drive from the WCOC events, down highway 22, one of the most scenic drives around as you drive through the Foothills parallel to the Rockies. The Crowsnest Pass is made up of 5 smaller towns (Blairmore, Coleman, Bellevue, Frank, Hillcrest). The area has an incredible history and beauty and we encourage to have fun exploring the area as you make your way to the COCs in Kimberley and Cranbrook (about a 2 hour drive).

Monday July 4th: Barebones Event #1 (afternoon), Blairmore, Alberta

Tuesday July 5th: Barebones Event #2 (morning), Blairmore, Alberta

Sass Peepre National Junior Training Camp

For many years, the Sass Peepre Junior Development Committee has organized an annual training camp for juniors from across Canada. Junior athletes of all abilities from 11 to 20 years of age are invited to participate in this camp, which always has amazing volunteer coaches coming from the ranks of the Senior National Team, High Performance Program athletes, ex-national team members, and parents wanting to help their kids.

Wednesday July 6th and Thursday 7th: Kimberley Nordic Centre, Kimberley, British Columbia

The 2022 Canadian Orienteering Championships will take place on July 8th – 10th near Kimberley and Cranbrook, BC. It will be hosted by the Kootenay Orienteering Club.

There will be an informal banquet during the weekend.  The final date and location will be announced in April.  No pre-registration will be required as the intent is to keep it informal and in compliance with BC Covid Guidelines. It will be picnic style with a food truck on location.

In addition, on Saturday, July 9th, members of the Kootenay Orienteering Club will be assisting with the organization of Symphony on the Mountain.  This will be an outdoor, full symphony concert, to be held at Kimberley Alpine Resort.  Orienteers are invited to attend the concert.  Full details and tickets can be found at Symphony on the Mountain.  An outdoor BBQ will be available on-site.

Anyone who has previously purchased a banquet ticket will receive a full refund credit to be collected at registration.
