HPP – RELAY

COC2022 – High Performance Program (HPP) – Sprint Relay

Each year, one event at the COC’s is designated as an HPP Fundraiser. This year’s relay is just that event, with all proceeds going to the High Performance Program to support our national level athletes. The Relay is designed as a fun event. Each relay team will have three runners.

Teams must complete a relay registration form (see below) and submit it to the course setter, Afan Jones afanjones@live.com by 6 pm Thursday June 30 or, in person at crof2022 before 6pm Thursday July 7. To find potential relay teammates check this google doc: HPP registrants.

If you would like to connect with any of the other relay registrants via email and you don’t know their email, contact charlotte@barebones.ca and she’ll help connect you. If you can’t make up a team, we will try and match up teams on the day of the event i.e., Friday, July 8.

Thank you for supporting our High Performance Program athletes!

Course setter notes: This fundraising event will be a sprint relay in a forest setting with a dense trail network. There is very fast rough open, semi-open and open forest with a modest climb. A large portion of the map was logged leaving large (2m high) stumps that are on the map (see ‘special map features’ section on the COC2022 Sprint page). Trail construction is underway: best efforts have been made to update the mapping.

Location: The HPP relay will use a start and finish area in approximately the same area as the COC2022 sprint.

Relay format:

A modified club relay format will be used:

  • Everyone who is registered for the HPP relay by the June 25, 2022 crof2022 registration deadline can participate. We will try and accommodate late entries to make up 3-person teams. The organizers reserve the discretion to assign participants to compose teams to ensure as many full relay teams as possible get to compete
  • 3-person relay teams with minimum one woman per team
  • Participants will self-select their team from the list of registered participants
  • Categories based on a points system. Each runner is assigned a score based on their gender and their age. The three individual scores are added up to create a team score, which determines the team’s category.
  • Some form of forking will be included
